Hub Easter 2026

The ARC Hub Social Committee’s Easter event on Tuesday, 31 March delivered exactly what was promised: a relaxed morning, a decent feed, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting.

Held outside in the morning sun of the System Gardens, the barbeque was already working overtime on toasted hot cross buns, and tea cups appeared quickly in people’s hands as they drifted in. It didn’t take long for conversations to pick up—one of those rare chances to talk to colleagues you don’t usually cross paths with.

The Easter egg hunt was the epitome of, “Early bird catches the worm” (or choccy egg), as people arrived, they were encouraged to try and find as many tasty treats before they melted in the morning sun. People spread out quickly, scanning corners, doubling back, and occasionally pretending they hadn’t just spotted something to allow others a fighting chance. Helen ultimately came out on top, clearly demonstrating a strong instinct for hidden chocolate.

The egg and spoon race followed and proved to be a crowd favourite. What started as a casual activity turned surprisingly competitive. There was careful pacing, a few bold attempts at speed, and more than one egg meeting an untimely end. In the end, Carl managed to keep his nerve (and his egg intact) to take the win.

Between activities, people gathered around the barbeque to enjoy freshly toasted hot cross buns. The hot cross buns—lightly crisped and generously buttered or jammed—were reason enough to linger, and more than a few people went back for seconds.

Overall, the event was a chance to step away from desks and connect with colleagues. A bit of fresh air, something to eat, and a bit of fun went a long way.  Credit to the Social Committee for keeping it easy and enjoyable—and to everyone who embraced the spirit of it (competitive or otherwise).
