Dr Baobao Pan

Post doctoral researcher - Theme 4

Baobao Pan works in close collaboration with Prof Deli Chen, Dr Shu Kee Lam, Dr Xia (Emma) Liang and the soil and the environment research group in the School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences. Her PhD research quantified the global nitrification rate and the fraction of nitrous oxide (N2O) from nitrification, denitrification and associated N2O, dinitrogen (N2) production, N2O production pathways and nitrate leaching, investigated the key drivers of nitrogen (N) loss from each pathway, performed accurate global prediction of nitrification rate and the fraction of N2O from nitrification, nitrate leaching, using data mining and machine learning models. During her PhD research, she has built several comprehensive N-related databases based on global literature and developed stochastic gradient boosting models to predict the global nitrification rate, immobilization rate, nitrate leaching, etc. Her PhD research encompasses agricultural data mining, machine learning, data analytics and soil science.

Baobao completed her Master and PhD in Agricultural Science at the University of Melbourne in 2015 and 2021. Her research interests include integrating novel data mining, machine learning techniques and process-based models for large-scale simulation and prediction of N cycling. She is skilled in global data synthesis, data mining, machine learning, modelling, meta-analysis, GIS analysis, etc. Her research outputs have been published in Environmental Science & Technology, Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment and Environmental Research Letters.
