Dr. Narges Milani
Soils and lab technician
Dr. Narges Milani is a skilled technical officer at the ARC Research for Smart Fertilisers with a robust background in soil science working closely with Theme 3 and 4. In her role, she combines scientific acumen with technical proficiency to conduct experiment to test new smart fertilisers developed by the Hub.
Narges completed her PhD at the University of Adelaide in 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Mike McLaughlin. She aimed to develop a new generation of Zn fertilisers using ZnO nanoparticles and to provide a better understanding of the chemical reactions and bioavailability of manufactured ZnO nanoparticles in soil, and of the factors which can affect this behaviour. Narges used a combination of state-of-the-art analytical techniques including advanced techniques for imaging and tracing nanoparticles, synchrotron-based X-ray techniques and isotopic dilution techniques using radioactive isotopes. Following the completion of her PhD, she started her job as a research assistant at The University of Melbourne under supervision of A/Prof Helen Suter to investigate the effect of nitrification inhibitors on nitrogen efficiency and nitrogenous gas emissions across a range of agricultural soils. She is deeply interested in research that aims to reduce agriculture’s environmental footprint and ensuring a secure food supply for future generations.
