Biomolecular Horizons 2024 Conference Recap
Biomolecular Horizons conference – Melbourne – SEPT, 2024
Prof. Uta Wille (Theme 2) and Dr. Zahra Islam (Theme 3) recently attended the Biomolecular Horizons 2024 (BMH2024) congress in Melbourne, an important event that brought together three prestigious congresses within the international Bioscience and Biotechnology community:
- 26th Congress of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB)
- 17th Congress of the Federation of Asian & Oceanian Biochemists & Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB)
- 22nd ComBio Conference (ComBio)
This was the first IUBMB Congress held in Melbourne and only the third time in the Southern Hemisphere. It was held in conjunction with FAOBMB and ComBio, forming a global platform that gathered renowned scientists from around the world, ranging from Nobel Laureates to early-career researchers.
Professor Uta Wille presented at the BMH2024, on the topic of smart fertilisers and their growing significance. She discussed how novel chemical fertiliser compounds can help with reducing fertiliser breakdown, to assist plant groeth and reduce adverse environmental impacts emanating from fertiliser loss on farms.
Dr. Zahra Islam presented at the BMH2024, on assessing the biodegradability of polymer coating candidates, with a focus on the Hub’s research in Theme 3 – microbiome interactions. This research has important implications in environmental sustainability of applying fertiliser products in agriculture.
