Celebrating World Food Day 2025
Happy World Food Day 2025!
Founded by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Day 2025 calls for global collaboration to create a peaceful, sustainable, and food-secure future. This comes at a time when approximately 673 million people face hunger whilst food waste reaches alarming levels; it is apparent our agrifood systems need urgent transformation.
The theme for 2025: Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future, highlights that although agrifood systems are major sources of greenhouse gas emissions, they also offer significant potential for emission reduction.
At our Hub, research into Smart Fertilisers is a key part of our mission to address these national and global challenges. Our team of researchers and partners aim to develop innovative fertiliser systems that optimise nutrient delivery while minimising their environmental impact, to increase productivity whilst reducing emissions and runoff.
As the FAO marks 80 years of working towards food security, this milestone reminds us of the ongoing commitment needed to transform our agrifood systems. Through interdisciplinary innovation and research at our Hub, we aim to contribute to this commitment through improving our use of fertilisers towards a more efficient and sustainable path.
