Professor Kathryn Mumford

Theme leader, Theme 1 - Fertilisers with engineered coatings

Kathryn leads the Advanced Separation Technologies Group, which  focuses on the development of environmentally friendly approaches to improve the efficiency and sustainability of processes including the production of novel materials, process designs and advanced thermodynamic models to optimize systems. She plays a key role in Theme 1, developing engineered coatings for the controlled release of fertilisers. Previously Kathryn developed a system for the use of controlled release fertiliser products to enhance the biodegradation of containment hydrocarbons in Antarctica which is considered ‘best practice’ for clean up of Antarctic research stations. She has extensive experience collaborating with industry and managed research projects with BHP, Masan Resources and Cann Group.
