Ian Lam
Science Communications Officer
Growing up in Hong Kong’s cityscape was the genesis for Ian’s deep-seated curiosity for agriculture and passion for the environment. Now, with a Bachelor of Agriculture and Master of Science (BioSciences) from the University of Melbourne, Ian aims to bridge the disconnect between urban dwellers and agrifood systems through effective science communication.
Ian’s Masters research focused on the ecotoxicological effects of environmental contaminants on invertebrates, including bees and earthworms that underpin agricultural productivity. His research specifically examined the effects of microplastic exposure on soil organisms, through a collaboration with The University of Cambridge and University of East Anglia; and is always down for a chat all-things soil and worm related!
As Project Officer at the Hub, Ian is committed to communicating emerging science from the Hub to the public and that believes science isn’t finished until it is effectively communicated.
