International Microorganism Day 2025

17 September 2025 by smartfertiliser-hub

Happy International Microorganism Day!

International Microorganism Day (IMD) is a global movement which celebrates the importance of microbes and the people who study them! Microbes are critical to biotechnology, environmental sustainability, and play essential roles in human health and agriculture.

At our Hub, research into Microbiome Interactions (Theme 3) is a key part of our mission to develop new and advanced smart fertilisers. Led by A/Prof Hang Wei Hu, our team of researchers aims to optimise fertiliser design through new insights into plant-soil-microbiome interactions, particularly in relation to root exudation.

Valuable research from our Hub, including the work of Islam et al. (2025) on the Native polymer degradation capacity of microorganisms in agricultural soils, highlights a crucial step in understanding and developing sustainable fertilisers.
