Seminar Recap – Prof. David Herridge
On the 5th of March 2025, the Hub had the pleasure of hosting the seminar titled ‘Quantifying legume N2 fixation in Australia’s farming systems at paddock-to-national scales’ joined by Prof. David Herridge from UNE, NSW.
For over five decades, Professor Herridge has explored the role of nitrogen-fixing legumes in agricultural systems. His work spans a wide range of disciplines, from soil microbiology and plant physiology to agronomy and soil chemistry. More recently, his research has focused on enhancing the efficiency of nitrogen use in cropping systems. He is also investigating ways to measure and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints associated with fertiliser- and legume-based nitrogen inputs. Additionally, he aims to boost legume productivity through the application of biological inoculants, such as rhizobia.
